Sunday School
We have an active Sunday School program and many, many teachers. Attendance is taken each week and perfect attendance recognition awards are given at the beginning of the new school year when Sunday School starts after the summer hiatus. Students are given an excused absence if a parent calls in when they are sick or because of weather, or if they bring a bulletin from a different church they attended out of town.
Curriculum for Ages 3-5 is Gospel Light. They have such a great a program for young people.
In the fall semester of 2007, we tried a new method of Sunday School. It is called the Workshop Rotation Model and so far we are working with Grades 1-6. It was determined that ages 3-5 still need the structure of staying in one room and working with the same teachers.
The rotation model seems to be a huge success. Our students are happy to be there. Parents have told us that their children ask to go to Sunday School. Heres how it works:
- Grades 1-6 meet at 9:15 for music with Brenda Schmidt and Jason Schwartz.
- At 9:30, Grades 1-2, 3-4, & 5-6 rotate to different stations.
- Each week, they go to either Storytelling, Computer Lab, Arts/Crafts, Science, Video or Cooking.
- Each unit lasts 6 weeks and so far weve used Abraham and Sarah and Joseph .
The good news is that when our wonderful congregation members say yes, it is for a 3-week commitment, not 9 months. This is a rewarding experience because you get to meet your churchs young people and they are actually happy to be there!
Grades 7-8 just finished working on a unit called Friendship. They learned what it takes to be a friend and to have friends. This is an excellent unit for that special Middle School age group.
We use the high school students as shepherds for the rotation stations. That seems to be successful.
The 3rd grade students received their Bibles in September 2007, when Sunday School started. They are given The Adventure Bible, which is geared toward the younger age students. Eighth grade students are also given a new Bible upon Confirmation. It is a beautiful adult Bible.
The students offering supports our World Vision child. We continue to take the offering and work towards different mission projects at home and abroad. Thank you to parents for sending offering with your child.
The Sunday School program was presented on Sunday, December 16, 2007. The Sunday School Students presented Journey to Bethlehem.
Our 2007/2008 Sunday School teachers are:
- Music Directors:
- Cherub Choir: Brenda Arteman and Kristi Letcher
- Children of the King Choir: Brenda Schmidt and Jason Schwartz
- Preschool/Kindergarten: Brandee Schwartz and Lisa Kopfmann

The Adult Sunday School class meets at 9:15 in the Fellowship Hall. The class is led by Pastor Channell. We invite you to come and join us as we seek a greater understanding of God, ourselves, and God's will for our lives.
We appreciate the members of First Presbyterian who are willing and able to contribute to the Sunday School and Youth Programs. If we want to keep the young people participating, we need to do so too. |
